Join MetaArchive: Help us to collaboratively preserve our digital heritage

The Cooperative is currently welcoming new members at all levels. To join, please contact one of our principals.

The MetaArchive Cooperative knows that "one size fits all" does not fit cultural heritage institutions. In order to engage a wide range of these institutions - including libraries, archives, museums, and historical societies of all sizes and nationalities - the Cooperative offers three levels of membership.

Brief descriptions of each distinct membership level are provided below. For more detail, please see the Cooperative Charter and Membership Agreement. Membership rates are listed in the Membership Agreement.

MetaArchive Sustaining Members hold the highest commitment level to the Cooperative. These are the institutional leaders of Distributed Digital Preservation practices. Sustaining Members have their content preserved in MetaArchive’s distributed networks. Additionally, they run Preservation Nodes (MetaArchive network servers) for the Cooperative and actively engage with the testing, development, and maintenance of hardware and software, network connectivity, and transmission standards. Our Steering Committee is comprised of representatives from Sustaining Member institutions.

MetaArchive Preservation Members form the backbone of the MetaArchive Cooperative’s distributed networks. Preservation Members have their content preserved in MetaArchive’s distributed networks. Additionally, they participate in our networks by running Preservation Nodes.

MetaArchive Contributing Members are cultural memory institutions that own and possess digital content and preserve it via the MetaArchive Preservation Network. They do not maintain any of the server infrastructure associated with the MetaArchive Preservation Network.
